The Ladies' Lot is a regional community blend from 108 Mountain Harvest-certified women smallholder farmers, led by Mama Janet, and Mountain Harvest, which is dedicated to challenging the status quo and transforming the Ugandan coffee narrative by uplifting women in the coffee supply chain. While women represent up to 70 percent of the labor on coffee farmsâengaging in tasks like planting, picking, and processingâthey remain underrepresented in decision-making and business ownership.
In 2022, Mountain Harvest launched a Gender Inclusion Strategy in partnership with a local nonprofit to promote economic growth in rural Uganda. Since 2017, they've increased the certification of women farmers from 13% to 39%, and women now comprise 57% of our management team. We offer professional opportunities for women in our supply chain, facilitate access to savings groups and microfinance, and hold training sessions closer to homes.
