How do we feel about this coffee

It feels rich, deep, nostalgic, and sophisticated, like amaretto, Nutella spread over a shortbread cookie, and enjoying a Pecan Butter Tart after dinner to the sounds of “Take the A Train” by Duke Ellington.

Coffee Story
Reina is an inspiring coffee producer with a deep commitment to her craft and family.  She grows her coffee on her farm, El Pedregal, in the Campanario, Intibuca region of Honduras, with the help of her husband, three children, and her journey in coffee cultivation began 30 years ago. Despite facing numerous challenges and low prices for their coffee in the past, Reina and her family have shown incredible resilience and are proud and filled with optimism as part of the "Sueños de Semilla" project and producer group in Honduras.

Coming from a distinguished lineage of coffee farmers, Reina embodies a three-generation legacy dedicated to this important work. Their family's connection to coffee cultivation is woven into the traditions of their community, where the coffee industry is both a livelihood and a way of life.

As she looks to the future, Reina is excited about the prospect of enhancing their crop management practices to produce even higher-quality coffee, all while nurturing their relationship with the environment. She dreams of exporting their coffee directly to consumers, sharing their passion and heritage on a global scale. For Reina, coffee farming isn’t just a job; it’s a heartfelt family tradition that teaches her children the values of hard work and determination.

While challenges persist—such as rising production costs, labour shortages, and the threat of pests—Reina remains steadfast. Her greatest joy is supporting her family, ensuring her children receive a quality education. With goals to produce premium coffee and pass down this cherished legacy to her children, Reina’s journey is nothing short of remarkable.

Once picked at peak ripeness, this specific blended lot of IH90 cherries is placed in sealed plastic bags to undergo a 40-hour anaerobic fermentation. After fermentation, the cherries are depulped and transferred to concrete tanks for a second dry fermentation lasting 24 hours. After this process, the beans are spread out on raised beds in the shade, where they are slowly dried for 25 to 30 days. The resulting dried cherries are then stored in plastic bags to preserve their quality.
