How do we feel about this coffee
It feels sweet, soft and comforting, like fresh apricots, homemade white chocolate macadamia nut cookies out of the oven, and pressing the perfect fire-toasted marshmallow between two graham crackers and a piece of chocolate.
Coffee Story
The Tomazini family is synonymous with the acclaimed Espírito Santo region and renowned for their high-quality and competition-winning coffees. Valdeir, the great-grandson of the first farmers to cultivate the land in Bateia, Castelo, manages the farm alongside his wife, Maria, and their children, Aline and Abner. Since 2001, the family has been producing specialty-grade pulped coffees, becoming one of the first farms in the region to implement quality-focused processing standards.

The farm boasts over 22,000 coffee trees and produces an average of 250 bags of coffee each year, with approximately one-third being classified as specialty quality. The period from September to October yields the highest quality coffees, as the most extreme weather has already passed. Valdeir notes that he can tell when the quality is at its peak because the coffee cherries appear slightly larger.

This particular semi-washed coffee is a blended lot of Cataui and Catucaí 785. Catucai 785 is a progeny of Icatú Vermelho and Catuaí Vermelho, and within the Bourbon lineage. It is a small, uniform plant with wavy-edged leaves and bronze-hued new growth. It is high-yielding, produces large red fruit with a large sieve rating, and is both highly leaf-rust tolerant and remarkably stable in varied weather conditions. While generally an early-harvest plant, in certain climates, fruit development begins early but then slows significantly—a trait that has been used by some of the more astute producers in compatible regions to extend fruit maturation and improve cup quality.
