Coffee Story
Finca Un Regalo de Dios is Luis Alberto’s pride and joy. The farm is spread across 130 beautiful acres of sandy soil. It is surrounded by lush forests protected on three sides by high mountains in the otherwise dry and piny area of Mozonte, which is north of the department of Nueva Segovia. The farm is divided into several plants based on altitude, which, interestingly enough, has little direct correlation to quality. This helps create a rich biodiverse microclimate with optimal coffee growing conditions. Coffees from Un Regalo de Dios have a deep sugar cane toffee and dark, dried fruit character.
The care and attention to detail in every lot processed on Luis Alberto's farm are second to none. The meticulous detail at every stage, from optimal cherry-picking at the farm level to carefully controlled fermentation and drying of the coffee, results in a truly unique flavour profile. As the popularity of his coffee increases, Luis Alberto separates pickings even more precisely. His farm managers keep Red and Yellow Catuai cherries separate, and even multiple lots from the same plant harvested and processed on the same day may have subtle variations that might make them better suited to Pulped Natural or Full Natural processing rather than conventional washing. Brandied cherries, raisins, root beer, hazelnut and cola are regularly found in the washed coffees, and the Pulped Natural and Natural lots can show every fruit and brown sugar flavour on the gamut.
