Why we love this coffee

It’s like a sweet buttery pastry in a mug. 🥐. Known for his coffee passion and excellence, Roger Urena brings us another straight-up classic with tonnes of balance and smoothness for days. We getting loads of sweet pastry-like aromatics that make way to a round texture and flavours of clementine, toasted almond and baker’s chocolate. 👌

Coffee Story
For the past 6 seasons we have purchased coffees from Cup of Excellence winning producer Roger Urena and every year we are amazed by his passion and extremely inspired by his obsession with quality at all levels. Roger is a third-generation coffee producer who, along with his son Alex, owns and operates the wet-mill, Santa Teresa 2000, where he processes the coffees from all his farms in the region. This specific lot is white honey processed Catuai lot that grown in the Santa Maria de Dota Valley in Tarrazú on his farm El Toño. Every year, our Green Buyer visits him at the mill in February and is always blown away by his knowledge and enthusiasm for his coffees. Whether he’s talking about growing and processing techniques or exploring his well-loved varieties, his goal is always the same: the perfect cup of coffee.

High quality, Balanced and Smooth flavours

I found it very “sweet orange” forward with zest leading to a buttery smooth and nicely balanced out flavour profile. I’ll try grinding a bit finer to find more bitters, where I imagine the bakers chocolate notes will be…however I’m in no rush. I’m grinding medium-fine at a 16:1 ratio, and finding that “orange zested buttery croissant” is a fair flavour profile. Not too bold or bright, but very smooth and easy to drink neat.

Good coffee, but a bit bland

This coffee is good and smooth as described, but feels a bit bland in terms of flavour profile. There is nothing to make it a particularly interesting, but rather a very classic profile.
