Ontario has an incredibly rich food culture and over at our café in Dundas we are proud to showcase that. We get to work with some really amazing farmers, artisans and producers who continually raise the bar and are strengthening the agricultural sectors in this province.
As far as culinary trends go, eating local has definitely been on the rise in recent years. But what does that really mean and how can you be sure that what you are purchasing has really been procured from as close to home as possible?

Enter FEAST ON, a foodservice designation program through the Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance with support from the Ministry of Agriculture which aims to showcase the vast and abundant food and drink coming from this province. This certification gives consumers easy access to events, restaurants and food trucks that are purchasing at a minimum 25% of all food and beverage from Ontario.

Detour is a FEAST ON certified café and we are dedicated to procuring local food and drink whenever possible, shaping Ontario’s culinary identity and educating our own customers on where to purchase locally grown and produced food.

Why do we do it?

Our motives for sourcing in this way are very similar to the motives behind how we source all of our coffees. We’re focused on offering the absolute best in quality and in growing relationships directly with the people who grow our food. Not only do these sourcing practices make for a better tasting product but it’s changing the way that we look at food and at coffee- taking them from simple consumables to a much greater understanding of impact on our environment, our neighbours near and far and a very real awareness that in order to sustain them we need to continually look at how we are doing and what we can do better.
For us and all of our staff this program has meant a greater connection to the food that we serve, the community of people we purchase from and the stories behind it all!
