We have sourced this coffee for 2 years running for its incredible balance and sugary sweetness. This year's lot, a washed Bourbon, is incredibly structured and sweet with a hint of spice and notes of dried fruit, candied lemon and milk chocolate. The Gatare washing station is one of the oldest in the country, situated in the Nyamasheke district, which lies between Lake Kivu and Nyungwe Forest National Park. It began operating in 2003, with just a handful of washing stations processing fully-washed, specialty coffee in the country. Elevation at the mill is 1800 masl and they receive cherry from upwards of 2,000 farmers from the surrounding hills and dry ferment on raised beds for 11-14 days.
