|We are proud to announce officially that we will be the new owners of Manual Labour Coffee as of October 1st. We couldn't be happier about the addition and it (literally) being a vehicle for us to share our passion for the coffees we source and roast.
It's also a bit bittersweet for us because we will also be saying goodbye to our good friends Matt and Katie as they head off to Australia.
I first met Matt a few weeks after he opened Mercury Espresso Bar in Toronto in 2005. At the time I was thinking about opening an espresso bar myself and targeted Leslieville as the area to do it! Matt's dedication to quality made Mercury one of Toronto's most respected coffee spots and a favorite of mine as well for consistently producing quality drinks.
We knew that Matt would continue to raise the bar when he and Katie started Manual Labour Coffee and the success of Manual Labour is equally attributable to Katie as well. Katie's simply amazing at dealing with customers! Her warmth and empathy towards customers give them a comfortable and inviting environment to have a new and different kind of coffee experience.
Filing the shoes of Matt and Katie is no easy feat but we were extremely lucky to have Nicholas Hollier come to us when he did. Nicholas comes to us from New Zealand by way of B.C. and has a varied experience in coffee including work as a barista, roaster and trainer. We look forward to you meeting him and having Detour serve you starting in October. For enquiries for future events please feel free to contact Nicholas directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
